Three ceramic altars - three sisters - inspired by traditional wall altars and the resilience of our oldest living flower, the orchid, our ancestors reborn; featured along side 25 other amazing artists for Ivester Contemporary‘s summer show Ciudate.
Cuídate(Take Care) is an exhibition centered on personal self-soothing rituals and the quiet power of care as resistance. Through self-soothing we make space to rest, reflect, and ultimately act with greater intention. This show explores the idea that to care for ourselves is to care for our neighbors and while no one person can extinguish a raging fire alone, we can each tend to what’s directly in front of us. The title, Cuídate, speaks to more than just the act of taking care. In many cultures, especially within Latinx communities, cuídate is not just the word left at the end of a phone call but an amulet, an offering of love, worry, and protection. Cuídate is curated by Savannah Diaz, Assistant Director of Ivester Contemporary, and features the work of twenty-nine artists from Texas and beyond, each exploring their own personal self-soothing rituals through a variety of media.
